Do you have days or specific times during the year when you just feel ‘blah’? It doesn’t mean that you are depressed or that really is anything wrong, sometimes we just feel like there is nothing else to describe the feeling except ‘blah’ or maybe the term ‘meh’ is more relatable. Regardless of which one you relate to more, sometimes all you need is a little food, sleep or exercise. Make sure to ask yourself:
- Have I had enough sleep recently?
- Have I gotten enough adequate exercise?
- Have I been eating well?
Asking yourself these questions and really taking some time to figure out the answers will help guide you into figuring out which one of these categories may be lacking some attention. Without a balance of the three can cause some of the familiar ‘blahs’ or ‘mehs’. Sometimes figuring it out can be pretty easy, but if you think all of these three things are pretty on track then try out some of these additional ways to get yourself out of the ‘blah’ and ‘meh’ blues.
Sometimes all you need to do is give yourself a break. Stress and anxiety can sneak up on us. It can come at a time when we are overwhelmed with things we still need to accomplish. Instead of causing yourself more stress or anxiety it is best to just walk away for a moment of time and give yourself a break. Try giving yourself a break with a relaxing bath, or watching a movie, or sitting down with a good book, or maybe a mini spa session.
When is the last time you went out with your friends? You may just need to make some plans to laugh a bit. Reach out to some friends and get together for some dinner or a sporting event. Sometimes you need just a little bit of time to let loose and throw your hair back.
Next time you are feeling the ‘blah’ blues turn up the jams. Think about your favorite songs and turn up the volume. Whether you are in the car or at your home, just crank it up and sing your heart out. This in itself can increase some of those feel-good hormones and emotions and get you right back to your normal feeling self.
Do you have a lot on your plate? Maybe you should just try and focus on one of those items to accomplish. Being able to check off one of those items on your to-do list is a lot more accomplishing then you are probably giving yourself credit for. One more check is one more item you do not have to worry about.
So remember when you are just not feeling like yourself, ask yourself the three questions, assess the outcomes and either you will feel better or try one of the other four instant feel-good tricks listed above.ย
