Between their workouts they have been hosting virtually in their living room or at the park, we got a chance to chat with Strength City about how they have adapted in 2020.
Strength City is a smarter standard in training brought to you by @alexredfit + @deanfitmachine. Their goal is for you to discover your strongest, most badass self, all while having fun!
E: How are you staying fit without being able to go to the gym?
SC: We were lucky, because we had access to equipment from the beginning of quarantine, so we turned our living room into our gym. The biggest lesson we haveย ย taken from this forced at home fitness experience, is that a gym is just a building with equipment in it, itโs not the determining factor on whether or not you break a sweat or โget that pumpโ. We all must be adaptable, and create space inside or out that allows us to achieve what we need.ย
E: What is your go-to workout people can do at home?
SC: Glider workouts have been our favorite! The great thing is that if you do not have gliders, you can use socks on a hard wood floor and paper plates or frisbees on carpet or the great outdoors. These workouts have been fun, challenging, and target your entire body in a unique way.ย
E: What is your favorite ‘easy button’ meal to make at home?
SC: Turkey meatballs and zucchini noodles with SOOOO much garlic ๐
E:ย When ordering Door Dash/Uber Eats, how do you make sure you order a healthy meal?
SC: We always make sure we order something thatโs โveggie forwardโ. Lots of greens, a lean protein, a healthy carb like sweet potatoes or brown rice, and if we want something indulgent, we order one and split the goods!ย
E:ย What is keeping you motivated right now?
SC: Weโre lucky because we have each other, and weโre great at holding each other accountable. Weโre also SO FORTUNATE to have the EBOOST fit fam making sure we stay connected and inspired to progressing together, even from afar! Big shout out as well to our ride or die Strength City fam. Theyโve been so committed to showing up rain or shine, hot or cold, and they inspire us on a regular!ย
E:ย What is your favorite healthy snack?
SC: Open-faced crunchy almond butter & banana sammie! Fave bread to use is Daveโs Killer Thin Sliced – any of the โflavorsโ!ย
E: What is your favorite EBOOST product right now and why?
SC: LOVEEE the Orange Mango SUPER FUEL in a can! Love the hint of bubbles and the taste is great. It definitely gives us the extra boost we need throughout our workouts!ย
E:ย What does your morning routine look like (if you have one)?
SC: Canโt start the day without โthe usualโ – brushing the teeth, washing the face, moisturizing (+ SPF – protect yo face ;). Then, one of us exercises/does some training with our pupper Rocky while the other sets up for our morning classes. We alternate dog/class duty every day – Rocky is our fave guy!ย ย
E:ย If there is one piece of equipment someone could get the most results from while working out at home (or the local park), what would it be?
SC: Ooooo, this is a toughie. We honestly canโt pick just one, so since there are two of us, weโll give you our top two.ย
Medium Kettlebellย
The KB is a VERY versatile tool, and truly forces you to use stabilizing muscles that you donโt normally think about. It can be used for both strict strength movements as well as power / conditioning movements, and you can really get increรญble results from just โthe basicsโ. If you have the space / funds to purchase two kettlebells, we recommend investing in both a medium and a heavier weight. Something you can press overhead (depending on your level, 8kg-16kg), as well as one for lower body focused movements like deadlifting / squatting (16kg-32kg).ย
Slam ballย
The slam ball is so great because you can really work on explosive power while boosting your heart rate. Itโs also just really fun to slam something into the floor / against a solid wall – itโs like therapy in a ball. A safe and productive way to let off some steam, especially in these crazy times.ย
E:ย What is your motto right now?
SC: โMake moves, not excuses!โ Itโs so easy, especially right now to make unhealthy choices and create excuses for ourselves. We justify bad eating and drinking habits, and being lazy and unmotivated…we all do it! But the truth is, if you want something, itโs up to you to make it happen because no one else is going to do it for you. There is no better time than right now, so stop talking about it and start making strides (consistent, small ones) to be your best you!
