Between being a Mom, Engineer, and Triathlete, Susan Oyler took time out of her busy schedule to share how she is staying fit while gyms are closed.
E: How are you staying fit without being able to go to the gym?
SO: Even before Covid times, I did a large portion of my training at home, so I was fortunate to be prepared to do ALL my training at home. I also have a lake about 20 minutes from my house, so that has provided me a safe, socially distant way to swim!
E: What is your go-to workout people can do at home?
SO: My go-to workout would be a short and easy 20 minute run to warm-up the muscles and then strength training with resistance bands (lat pull downs, shoulder press, squats, tricep extensions).
E: What is your favorite ‘easy button’ meal to make at home?
SO: I try to keep deli meat and cheese at the house for a quick and easy meal while Iโm working or running around.
E: When ordering Door Dash/Uber Eats, how do you make sure you order a healthy meal?
SO: Iโve been using Panera Bread Delivery a lot lately, which has so many healthy options for my family and me.
E: What is keeping you motivated right now?
SO: I think itโs natural for motivation to wax and wane for all of us. Especially this year! I try to acknowledge my feelings and honor them. With no races this year, I have the luxury to allow myself to be more flexible with my training.
E: What is your favorite healthy snack?
SO: No bake oatmeal energy bites are my absolute favorite. Itโs like oatmeal and trail mix rolled into a ball!
E: What is your favorite EBOOST product right now and why?
SO: Iโve been so busy lately, so Iโm living off the SUPER FUEL cans. I would be a complete mombie (mom-zombie) without it!
E: What does your morning routine look like (if you have one)?
SO: My morning routine is basically herding cats! Taking care of my dogs and getting my daughter ready for school while trying to brush my teeth and grab a bite to eat before heading into work (whether itโs at City Hall or from home).
E: If there is one piece of equipment someone could get the most results from while working out at home (or the local park), what would it be?
SO: I have an adjustable dumbbell set that is so useful to hit all the muscles. If someone is willing to make that investment, it will be worth it!
E: What is your motto right now?
SO: Be kind. There is a lot of angst in the world right now and I think we could all use more kindness.
