Mara Marini is an actress, comedian and fitness enthusiast. We recently had the chance to chat with her and to ask her how she is staying fit and motivated in 2020.
E: How are you staying fit without being able to go to the gym?
MM: Currently doing these awesome live zoom workouts taught by Cirque du Soleil performers. Intense HIIT and yoga classes daily (Workout With… ). I supplement that with the weights & bands I have at home hitting different muscle groups each day and hike daily. Once a week or so I beg my friend to use their home garage gym so I can lift a little heavier.
E: What is your go-to workout people can do at home?
MM: I have some fun workouts up on my IG highlights. I’ll do a pretty intense leg/glute workout that you can do with dumbbells, a kettlebell or bands.
E: What is your favorite ‘easy button’ meal to make at home?
MM: I love ground turkey, spaghetti squash & no sugar spaghetti sauce. Really easy to make – just cook the turkey in a pan with some seasoning, throw the whole spaghetti squash in the oven for 45 minutes at 375°. Makes about five meals! That and salmon and asparagus. (Also very easy oven meals!)
E: When ordering Door Dash/Uber Eats, how do you make sure you order a healthy meal?
MM: I honestly don’t order in very often. Especially during this time – I feel like I have the time to cook, why would I order in? But on the rare occasion that I do, I search for low-carb alternatives – cauliflower rice, etc., and places that offer those choices.
E: What keeps Mara Marini motivated right now?
MM: It took being quarantined for me to realize how much I REALLY LOVE the gym. I always knew I loved it but a huge component is being around other fit goal-oriented people – I definitely feed off of that energy. So since I don’t have that, the zoom workouts help – having my camera on holds me accountable. Getting outside – working out outside and hiking. Music is a huge motivator for me! EDM and rap get me through & motivates me during an intense workout.
E: What is your favorite healthy snack?
MM: Cashews or celery with Laughing Cow cheese and Trader Joe’s Everything But the Bagel seasoning (bagel hack! lol) or Scandinavian Fiber Crispbread with Laughing Cow cheese and tomatoes.
E: What is your favorite EBOOST product right now and why?
MM: I love the watermelon BCAAs! I sip them during every workout and love that they are keto-friendly and that they support muscle recovery and delay muscle fatigue.
E: What does Mara Marini’s morning routine look like (if you have one)?
MM: I wake up and immediately make some coffee. Then I usually get outside and go on a hike with my pup, Coconut or workout. After which I’ll make my breakfast low carb yogurt concoction and a protein shake.
E: If there is one piece of equipment someone could get the most results from while working out at home (or the local park), what would it be?
MM: I think dumbbells or heavy bands are great because there are so many things you can do with them.
E: What is your motto right now?
MM: Breathe and go with the flow. I was very, very regimented in my schedule prior to the pandemic and now just trying to be a bit more open during these uncertain times while still maintaining a skeleton of a schedule for my sanity.
