What working out means to each of us is most likely pretty different from person to person. For some crushing a workout maybe PRing your overhead squat in Crossfit, or trying out your first Soul Cycle or maybe it is cruising through your regular attended F45 class, whatever it looks like there is one thing for certain that stays the same for each of us… we each need to refuel our bodies with proper nutrition. Sure, what we like to eat after a workout looks different to a lot of people but these are four natural foods that you can always default to and know you gave your body some great post workout nutrients to refuel your body right.
H2O
We wish this one was a bit more obvious than we would like to believe, but always, always drink lots of water after you workout. You just worked hard and sweat a lot, your body needs the hydration. After you finish crushing your session, you should aim to replenish your water loss by 150%.
Whey Protein
If there are any two phrases that belong together, it is ‘post-workout’ and ‘whey protein’. If fat loss is your goal, then sticking to high protein and low carbs is best after your workout. If you donโt do whey, (we are a little bias though – EBOOST PRIME – grass-fed whey protein) you can also achieve your weight loss goals from ingesting a vegan protein powder after your workouts too!
Oatmeal
Oats are a great source of carbohydrates and an even better source of fiber. Throw them together with your whey protein and mix them up in a blender, throw together some oatmeal and mix in some protein, or prep the night before some overnight oats. There are tons of recipes out there for some clean oat recipes that are perfect for after working out to replenish your body’s glycogenย stores.
Bananas
Bananas areย the best to consume after a hard sweaty workout. Throw them into a blender with whey protein and spinach, or top your nonfat Greek yogurt by making a little parfait. Bananas are an easy grab and go too, packed with 600mg of potassium. Your muscles will certainly thank you for this one!
