Whether you are just starting out on your fitness journey or going after a gold medal in the Olympics there is something everyone has in commonโa goal(s). Goals don’t happen overnight and they certainly don’t happen without dedication, determination, and drive to name a few (or maybe we just like words that start with the letter ‘d’ – ha). But really, accomplishing goals is no easy task and it can take a total mindset shift to do so. Here are three mindset shifts that help you accomplish your goals.
Head Down
If you want to achieve something, you have to just do it by making a plan and executing it. Whatever else you have going on in your life, it doesn’t matter as much as the goals you want to achieve.
In order to keep your head down and push forward, you need to map out what needs to be done, like having a plan. Don’t stop to think. Just do it.
Being able to have a mindset like this takes some time to develop, but it can be done by continuously choosing need-to-do over want-to-do. Make a list of things you must get done, and check off every single thing on that list. It might feel tedious to do so, but when the list is completely checked off… oh, what a great feeling of accomplishment that is! Plus, getting started is the hardest part, but so much peace of mind to be had by pushing through and getting it done, motivated or not.
Be a Bit Selfish
You need to trust yourself in the fact that you need to be a bit selfish when it comes to accomplishing big goals. You can’t get worried about saying no to a friend who wants to grab a drink after work. If they are mature enough and understand what is important to you, then there is no need for them to feel offended or you to worry about how they feel when you have to turn down their offer.
Don’t Rob Yourself
When we want something so bad, it is hard to not put all off the pressure on ourselves and not quit until we are good enough. This can really mess with ourselves mentally. It can cause us to not be having fun anymore, forget why we are doing it in the first place and end up just giving up.
We must allow ourselves to have room for the mistakes that may come because they are essentially inevitable. Remember to not kick ourselves when we’re down but understand it is a process that involves ups and downs but in the end we want the ups and downs to be going in an upward direction, just like the value of a home, because in the end, it will all be worthwhile when that goal is achieved.
Even on those busy days, you can still get in a workout with tips like these.
