That shockingly cold moment when someone flushes the toilet while you are taking a shower leaves you shrieking from the shock to your body. What if we told you that people purposely take showers daily that are as cold as (and maybe colder) your shower turns when someone turns on the faucet or flushes the toilet while you are showering. Yes, it is cold but you get used to it. Cold showers do your body a whole lot better than hot showers do and here are just four of those ways.
Stimulates Weight Loss
In our bodies, we have two types of fatโwhite fat and brown fat. Our white fat is what is created when we eat too many calories that we don’t burn odd. Brown fat is the good fat. It is what is responsible for keeping our bodies warm and what is activated when we are cold. Thus, when you take a cold shower, your brown fat is activated to create heat to keep you warm.
Relieves Depression
Cold showers have been shown to relieve depression symptoms. This happens because of the intense impact of the cold water on the skin, which sends an overwhelming amount of electrical impulses from the peripheral nerve endings to the brain. The way your body responds to this is producing an antidepressive effect which boosts the moods.
Speeds Up Muscle Recovery
A quick cold shower after breaking a sweat at the gym can be just as effective as dunking your body in an ice bath, especially in relieving delayed-onset muscle soreness. But how cold are we talking here? Studies show that 24-minute cold water shower was effective in relieving sore muscles up to four days after exercise with the shower temperature at 50 to 59 degrees Fahrenheit.
So willing to give it a try? Cold showers also ease stress, improves your immune system, circulation, and regenerates your skin and hair.
