It is definitely a hard task to keep healthy while traveling. The good news is… our airports are filled with way more options to help keep us on track while flying. I mean if you end up in an airport in the middle of nowhere, then your best bet is to bring everything you want to consume with you but for the sake of this article, we are going to pretend those are not the airports you will be traveling to.
Bring a Reusable Water Bottle or Buy a Water
The key to traveling is to keep hydrated. I know it is a pain to drink all the water and then have to use the restroom on the airplane, but really who cares what the person next to you thinksโwhen nature calls, nature calls. Having a water bottle handy is always super easy to fill up just about anywhere at the airport. Plus, we love to bring our SUPER POWDER packets with us to throw into our water to make our water, not only, a bit more interesting but to give our bodies some vitamins and minerals it could be craving too!
Explore the Airport
Just because you don’t see what you want for food near your gate doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Check inย at your gate, see if everything is on time, assess how much time you have to kill, then start walking. As you see something that may have what you are looking for check out the menu. Don’t be afraid to settle though, as there could be a better option.
Focus on Veggies and Lean Protein when Ordering Food
If you search high and low around the airport and still don’t see the perfect item on the menu, don’t think you are SOL. If you see veggies and a lean protein listed on the menu then chances are they can steam some veggies and cook up some meat for you. Always know you can deconstructย a dish, have them keep some things off while adding other menu items to it. The beauty about airports is that they aren’t really all that terrible anymoreโespecially the big ones.
BYOM – Bring Your Own Meal
This age you can bring all sorts of food with you on your carry on. If it can fit in your carry on, then you can probably bring it. We are taking food here though, so remember your liquid limitations. Some favorite things we like to bring are a lean protein, raw veggies and hummus, nuts, fruit, and maybe some dark chocolate for a little bit of an indulgence. Protein bars are an excellent choice too and easy to throw in your bag.
Mix ‘n Match
If you have the time, really explore even more. Find items that you like from different restaurants or stores and create your own meal. Grab some napkins and create yourself a little picnic while you wait for your plane to board.
