It is time to get real.
Adding on a few pounds doesn’t happen overnight but the effects start sooner than you would like them to. Yes, I am a broken record, but seriously this time of the year is a crazy time of the year for most people. And honestly, you may be feeling out of shape already. You’ve said yes to getting drinks with friends in town, you have gone to your spouses holiday party, you’ve been your BFF’s plus one at a holiday party and with this, some workouts have been skipped. These past couple weeks have totally been a complete wipe, and you are wondering where the heck your willpower went. Well, it’s gone but maybe hearing a couple facts will set you off on a wild goose chase to get your willpower back.
Remember one pound equals 3,500 calories. Break that up into seven days and that is 500 extra calories a day. 500 calories adds up pretty quickly. This can easily add up from grazing on extra snacks around the office, having a couple cocktails in the evening, eating out, going up for seconds, etc.
To give you some numbers, check out this list of foods and roughly the amount of calories you can expect in each.
plain donut – 200 calories
hand full of nuts – 160 calories
cocktails – 100 to 300 calories
glass of wine – 110 calories
oil to cook your food while dining out – at least 120 extra calories
cupcake – 300 calories
party punch (no alcohol) – 150 calories
By all means enjoy the holidays but be a bit more mindful when it comes to partying up and enjoying your friends and family. If you indulge a bit one day, then take a step back the next. And please don’t stress out about it, that could make the situation worse. It is all about the give and take. The balance of life. Indulge a little, work out a little, laugh a little, love a little…but really –
Relax.
Have fun.
And Enjoy the holidays.
