Dallas Cowboys cornerback and EBOOST partner Terence Newman is well-known for his accomplishments on the field. But he’s no slouch off the field, either! Terence launched his “Terence Newman Rising Stars Foundation” in 2007 with the aim of providing support for the most promising young student-athletes in the Dallas Independent School District.
Every year, ten ninth-grade football players are selected based on their outstanding character, good citizenship, leadership ability and commitment to excellence in the classroom and on the field. Once they become “Rising Stars,” the selected kids take part in a full slate of program activities including academic support through Sylvan Learning Center, as well as regular mentoring and special events with Terence himself. These events include outings to Cowboys games, community service activities and other surprise opportunities. If the kids maintain the program’s standards of character and grade point average throughout their high school years, Newman will reward each of them with a minimum of a $5,000 college scholarship upon their graduation.
Now in its third year, there are 30 Rising Stars in Terence’s foundation. On Monday November 1st, the foundation held it’s second annual “Night of Stars and Steaks” benefit and raised more than $115,000 towards the program’s events and scholarships. This year, the gala also focused on raising some additional funds to help with the medical expenses of new Rising Star Jared Williams, who was recently paralyzed in a football game less than a week after being selected to the program. More than $10,000 was raised that night for Jaredโs medical bills alone.
As if that weren’t enough, Terence also announced a partnership with University of Phoenix to grant full-tuition scholarships to four high school seniors in the Greater Dallas Boys & Girls Clubsโ Collegiate Steps program.
We here at EBOOST would like to congratulate our friend, partner and loyal BOOSTer Terence Newman on the difference he’s making in kids’ lives. Terence, we’re proud to say we know ya!
