As the NFL season kicks off I bet you have a hard time not trying to measure yourself up next to some of the fittest athletes on the planet. You see them running down the field and wonder if you think you could hang with the best of them. You also wonder how much can they bench or squat to be able to throw their weight around and tackle or block some of the biggest guys on the field. Well, this might be your chance to see if you have what it takes to be as fit as those football players in the gym.
Here are 5 tests to see if you are NFL fit – Fitness test created by EXOS
You don’t need to perform all the tests at once. Try them all separately but be sure to keep track of your results because when you have completed all five tests you will be adding your score up to see if you are NFL fit.
0 reps: 1 PT
1–2 reps: 2 PTS
3–4 reps: 3 PTS
5+ reps: 4 PTS
Isometric chin hold
Grasp a pull-up bar with an underhand grip. Pull your chin above the bar; hold for as long as possible. Lineman wannabes, do this test with body weight. Aspiring receivers, add a 30-pound weight vest.
0–5 secs: 1 PT
6–15 secs: 2 PTS
16–29 secs: 3 PTS
30+ secs: 4 PTS
Isometric Oblique Hold
Lie on a bench on one side with your legs straight, hips hanging off it, and hands across your chest. You’ll need to have someone hold your legs.
Lift your torso until it’s parallel to the ground. Hold for time.
Rest, switch sides, then repeat.
0–10 secs each side: 1 PT
11–29 secs each side: 2 PTS
30–39 secs each side: 3 PTS
40+ secs each side: 4 PTS
Stand a few inches behind a line. Leap forward as far as you can while landing on both feet. If you take a step forward or fall over, the jump doesn’t count. Measure from where you started to the back of your feet.
0–5 feet: 1 PT
6–8 feet: 2 PTS
9–10 feet: 3 PTS
11+ feet: 4 PTS
Set a clock for 12 minutes. During each minute you are going to spring 50 yards. Any time remaining within each minute you get to rest But make sure you start another sprint right at the beginning of the next minute.
Complete 12 rounds and tally how many you finish in less than 17 seconds.
0–4 rounds: 1 PT
5–8 rounds: 2 PTS
9–11 rounds: 3 PTS
12 rounds: 4 PTS
Now for the final results. The moment when you get to finally see if you are NFL fit!
If you score < 5 points: Then well better luck next time. We all have to start somewhere.
6–13 points: Just missed the cut! Work hard and try again next season
14–19 points: 53-man roster, here you come!!!
