Whether you drink a smoothie because you are wanting to consume some more vegetables in a green smoothie, or you’re packing it in with an anti-inflammatory smoothie, or upping your protein intake with a protein-packed smoothie, most recipes all contain one thing โ bananas.
Bananas are rich in potassium, support healthy blood pressure, and are a great source of fiber. However, some people just don’t like the taste of banana. It is easy to mask the taste of spinach or kale in a smoothie but trying to mask a banana is a hard task.
It is best to just omit the banana and swap it with something equally creamy.
Like an avocado.
However, an avocado is the easy swap. In fact, we have been using avocado in our smoothies for years. What else have you thought of to swap out the banana in your smoothie?
We have tried these two swaps and they do not disappoint-
Frozen Butternut Squash
Lean hard into the fall flavor of the squash. It is best to use frozen butternut squash to really level up the creaminess. Plus, they are packed with potassium and antioxidant carotenoids to support the immune system.
Add in flavors like cinnamon, apple and vanilla protein to create a delicious fall protein smoothie.
Frozen Zucchini
Yeah, this one might sound a bit weird but trust us. The key here is to peel the zucchini and deseed it before you throw it into your blender. Again we suggest freezing the vegetable to really step up the creaminess. Otherwise, you might need to add ice and that can really impact the texture of the smoothie.
