Coconut Milk
Coconut milk is made from the flesh of coconuts and water giving it a nice sweet and creamy texture. Coconut milk contains mostly fat, but the fact is made of MCTs, which has medium-chain triglycerides. Many use MCT to help them with weight loss, improve cholesterol, and having a healthy brain. Coconut Milk is great to add to a smoothie, add to a soup, pour over cereal, or even just drink on its own!
Oat Milk
Oat milk is made from a mixture of oat and water. A lot of manufacturers do add extra ingredients such as oil and salt, so one sure to check the label for what you are comfortable with. Oat milk does have some protein but it is mostly made up of carbs since it is after all oats. But oat milk helps lower cholesterol levels, and decrease the risk of heart disease. Oat milk is great for making a latte, adding to baked goods, added to a protein shake, and just drink on its own.
Almond Milk
Almond milk is made out of whole almonds and water or almond butter and water. It has a thinner consistency and has a sweet flavor. Almond mil is great in that it has a lot of vitamin E, which helps protect your body from disease-causing free radicals. Almond milk is probably the most versatile of the milk alternatives and can be used in practically anything when swapping out dairy milk.
With all of these milk alternatives, be careful of the flavored one or ones that do not say unsweetened on them. Many of them can be loaded with added sugar.
