We are woven by the foods we eat. The food we eat builds our bodies from the inside out, it powers our each and every move and inspires us to turn our thoughts into things. With that being said food also has the power to be our biggest ally in the fight against illness–food is the smartest, easiest, most effective way of bringing about real, visible, total-life changing effects. There are tons of research that show how more and more of us should turn to a plant-based diet. If this something you have been considering then there are some easy ways to make meals you already love into plant-based ones.
Leave Out the Meat
Easy enough. A lot of dishes can be just excellent on their own without the meat. There is typically something else in the meal besides meat, you can still enjoy a plate of veggies and healthy fats. Not ideal, since a lot of them are processed but you can add in a meatless alternative such as sausage, tempeh, or baked tofu as well. Start by making a list of your favorite meals and see if you could just leave out the meat.
Skip Animal Dairy
Almost every day there is a new daily alternative hitting the market, which means you have a lot of options here if you don’t want to just leave the animal dairy out. If you have a recipe that calls for cream, you can use any non-dairy milk but also add a few raw cashews to a high-powered blender and blend until smooth. Cannellini beans can add a lot of creaminess too. For cheese, it is usually best to just leave it out but also using a little nutritional yeast can be used as a substitute, however, it does take a bit to get used to since it doesn’t taste exactly like cheese.
Replace the Egg with a Faux Egg
If you’re baking and need something to rise, 1 egg = 3 Tablespoons water plus 1 Tablespoon ground flaxseeds. If you need something to stick together, use 2 tablespoons of flour or cornstarch + 2 tablespoons water. And, here’s an odd one, use the left-over brine from a can of chickpeas. Also, a ‘chia egg’ works really well too, 1 egg + 1 TBS of chia seeds + 3 TBS of water, and wait for about 5 minutes, until it becomes a gel.
