What did you do today? Did you happen to get outside? For a lot of America, the weather has been unseasonably nice out. Typically around this time of year, we tend to take our workouts indoors. However, this year there is still a lot of beautiful weather to take advantage of! Maybe you can’t go running down the beach in your swimsuit anymore like you may have done in the summer when it was 90 degrees, but there are still plenty of ways you can enjoy the outdoors with cooler temps (let’s say 50 degrees or aboveโmore power to you if you like frolicking about in the snow) and workout at the same time.
SUP – Stand Up Paddleboarding
For a lot of people they may think of SUP as a summer activity, but really you can enjoy it in the Fall and Spring too. The joy of SUP-ing in the fall is that you don’t have to worry about getting mulled by any boats or trying to not fall off with some killer wakes. If you think about it, how often have you fallen in while on a stand-upย paddleboard? Probably none or maybe once. You never have to touch the cooler water this time of year so why not keep it in your workout routine?
Color Trail Running
This time of year is perfect to take your runs out into the woods. The colors of the trees are changing, the air is crisper, and mother nature is much more enjoyable when you aren’t suffocating from the humidity. I really mean it, I tend to see a whole lot more when the temperatures are a bit easier to breathe in. My mind isn’t as focused on just trying to complete the run when in the fall I can actually enjoy the run more and have fun with the different terrain.
Mud Running
Grab some old sneakers a go get muddy. Be careful not to slip and fall though! Well, the falling may be fun but don’t hurt yourself! (You don’t have to be as hardcore as the guys pictured, but…) Having to concentrate a bit more on where you place your feet and having your body feel the slip and slide of the mud can work some muscles and supportingย fibers that your body isn’t used to will give it a great challenge. Have fun and feel like a kid again but expect to feel a bit sore the next day.
Hiking
Kind of like the color fun, hiking this time of year is absolutely beautiful. Grab a friend and get to the nearest elevation. Grab your pup too if they are allowed where you want to hike and give Fido a workout too!
Rock Climbing
I realize this one isn’t available to us all but if you think indoor rock climbing is fun, then the fall is a great time to try your skills outside. I highly recommend going with a professional. There is something about actually climbing rocks and boulders that is way more fun and challenging than being inside climbing a wall (no offense, we love indoor rock climbing too).
