Microwaves are sadly still an American household staple. They are used to warm up this and warm up that or zap this or zap that. When is the last time you used your microwave? I would love to hear you say that you don’t really remember. Microwaves are convenient sure, but microwaves aren’t doing your health any good and should not outweigh the cons.
Radiation
According to the American Cancer Society, microwaves are able to leak radiation despite the preventative pieces that are built in. The FDA does require all microwave manufacturers to meet certain safety standards to minimize the electromagnetic waves released, so who knows what the heck your microwave is really omitting. Often times the protective piece of mesh metal on the door can fail to deflect the radiation away from you if it’s old or just used a few too many times (but who’s to say how many times is too many times).
Leaking Carcinogens
Please, please, please tell me you don’t put styrofoam in the microwave! Also, most plastic containers are not made to be microwaved. When they are microwaved they leak carcinogens and other chemicals into your food. Carcinogens are incontrovertibly connected to causing cancer. Don’t do anything purposely to your body to cause cancer, it isn’t worth it!
Cataracts
Standing in front of the microwave can cause damage to your eyes resulting in cataracts, which leads to blindness. So not you are causing blindness, leaking chemicals into your food and exposing your body to radiation.
So not you are causing blindness, leaking chemicals into your food and exposing your body to radiation. How do these things alone not get you to stop using a microwave? Stop using it already!
If you think the hassle of turning on an oven, waiting for it to heat and then warm your good just takes too much time, then you need to focus more time on your health. Your life is worth protecting and keeping it as healthy as possible. Heck, a toaster oven is a much better appliance and can cut some of that time off from the oven. Maybe at least give that a try!
