Cinco de Mayo shouldn’t be another holiday where American’s think it is okay to drink the night away. Sadly, the holiday has been nicknamed ‘Cinco de Drinko’ โ poor taste America, poor taste.
Cinco de Mayo is not the day in which Mexico celebrates their independence, much like our Fourth of July. Rather, it celebrates a key victory by the Mexican Army against the French at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. Cinco de Mayo is a chronically misunderstood holiday, and not just in the United States โ but we can do our part to change that.
Instead of getting wasted with your friends, drink something healthier for you. May we suggest a strawberry lime styled drink (recipe below) while you do something good like education yourself on how Cinco de Mayo became a large part of the American Culture, or support authentic Mexican businesses. I mean who doesn’t love some authentic Mexican food? Forget #tacotuesday, today is the way when you should support these businesses andย stuff your face with tacos! And if you have some extra money you would like to put to good use, donate to an organization that helps support immigrants.
Just please please please, don’t wear a fake mustache, instead share this ‘Strawberry Lime Energy Boost’ with your friends.
All you need is a packet of Strawberry Kiwi Energy Powder, Strawberries, Lime, and Ice.
