Workout Wednesday – The Secret to Great Arms

September 20, 2017

Who’s arms to do gawk over and over at? Do you wish you had arms like Chris Hemsworth or The Rock? Or maybe the infamous biceps of Madonna? Or are you more along the lines of loving the way Gisele’s arms look swinging down the runway?

Your arms immediately let people know “Hey, I’m fit!” or “I haven’t lifted more than a slice of pizza in months.” And unlike your legs and stomach, your arms have to be ready for their close-up pretty much all year-round. However, the tricky part is that everyone has different preferences as to what they would like their arms to look like and sometimes it is all up to genetics, but doing the right exercises can definitely get you leaps and bounds in the right direction.

A lot of people, when they are striving for great arms tend you focus on the biceps primarily and the triceps secondary. The biceps are one third of your upper arm and your triceps are actually two thirds of your upper arm. But what a lot of people don’t realize is that, you need to focus on the whole arm to achieve your ideal arm, not just the biceps and triceps.

Your Arm Muscles

Biceps aka biceps brachii; just beneath it lie the brachioradialis and the brachialis.

Triceps, the lateral head, or section, of this three-part, back-of-the-arm muscle is the most visible.

Shoulder, this teardrop-shaped muscle is made up of the anterior (front), posterior (back), and medial (side) deltoids.

Rotator Cuff aka the supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor, and subscapularis surround the shoulder joint.

It is important to find exercises that focus on each of these muscles to workout a well rounded arm day at the gym. Sure, you can slip the muscles up over a couple different days, in fact a lot of people prefer that for efficiently, but as long as you are working all of the muscles in any given week then you are definitely a step in the right direction when it comes to shaping your arms.

The secret to great arms is working the whole entire arm, it literally can be that simple.

Stay tuned for next Wednesday where we will give a sample arm workout that we love.
